Flea and Tick Control

On Long Island, the greatest threat from fleas & ticks exists from May to August and can extend as late as November.  Fleas and ticks present a serious threat to our dogs.  Using a flea and tick preventative is a proactive way to prevent flea and tick related diseases.



At New Hyde Bark, we offer Advantage II and K9 Advantix II flea and tick preventatives. With only one simple topical application per month, you can get your dog through the flea and tick season and avoid the health risks associated with these parasites. 

If you see evidence of fleas or ticks on your dog, contact us immediately for an appointment for a bath that will address this problem.  If you see your dog biting & scratching itself, "flea dirt" (looks like black flakes which is actually flea feces from digested blood) and/or red areas or lesions on the skin, your dog may have a flea infestation.  Keep in mind, fleas are the master of disguise and may not be visible.  We only use natural shampoos specifically designed to kill these parasites on contact.



Advantage II
Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Advantage II also treats, prevents, and controls lice on dogs. Advantage II does not kill ticks.

K9 Advantix II
K9 Advantix II offers comprehensive protection against ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, biting flies and chewing lice. K9 Advantix II is a top veterinarian-recommended brand because it repels and kills all life stages of fleas (eggs, pupae, larvae, and adult fleas) and ticks (Deer ticks, American dog ticks, Brown dog ticks, and Lone Star ticks). The above flea and tick preventatives come in four (4) different sizes appropriate for the weight of your dog:

Small Dog - 0 to 10 lbs.
 Medium Dog - 11 to 20 lbs.
Large Dog - 21 to 55 lbs.
Extra Large Dog - 55 lbs. and over

Packages are available in four (4) or six (6) applications. 
One application is used per month during the season.
